Locum Housing Litigation Lawyer – London Local Authority – 1 day onsite per week – Full Time
Venn Group is working with a well-regarded and collaborative local authority in the South East of England in their search for a Housing Litigation Lawyer on a locum basis for an initial 3-month role with a strong likelihood of extension.
Details:
Job Title: Housing Litigation Lawyer
Hourly Rate: Negotiable, depending on experience
Length of Contract: 3 months initially with high possibility for extension
Working Pattern: Full-time
Location: Local Authority in the South East of England
Hybrid working available – 1 day onsite office presence
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
Working closely and collaboratively  with colleagues across the Council dealing with tenancy management.
This will include, but is not limited to:
  • Having conduct of a personal caseload of tenancy management legal matters including the provision of proactive legal advice on all aspects of housing tenancy management law
  • Assisting in planning, co-ordinating and undertaking litigation and advice work in respect of the Council’s housing management functions
  • Undertaking tenancy management legal work whilst co-located with the client and undertaking legal work to the highest professional and client care standards
  • Drafting, negotiating and agreeing legal documentation arising out of the exercise of the Council’s housing tenancy management functions
  • Acting as an advocate on behalf of the Council, where appropriate, in relevant Courts, tribunals and inquiries and instructing Counsel to represent the Council as necessary
  • Preparing and presenting briefing papers and reports for the Senior Litigation Lawyer (Housing) and, where necessary, recommending changes in Council Policy and practice and procedures to the Senior Litigation Lawyer (Housing)
  • Assisting with litigation, advice, and the general work of Legal Services as required, and with the development and training of staff, as requested, and undertaking other duties commensurate to the grade of the post
 
 

Job Requirements:

Preferred Experience:
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a valid practising certificate in England and Wales
  • Recent and significant experience in public housing litigation law, with substantial advocacy background
  • Expert knowledge of the Housing Act, Crime and Disorder Act, Anti Social Behaviour Act and the Anti Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, legal research, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage caseload and perform under pressure
  • Confident using IT systems such as MS Word, Outlook, and electronic document/case management systems
  • Ability to work as part of a team and adhere to the Council’s Dignity for All Policy
